Pune station restricts platform entry to confirmed ticket holders

To improve safety and manage crowds at Pune railway station, authorities will only allow passengers with confirmed or RAC (reservation against cancellation) tickets onto the platforms. Passengers with waiting list or general tickets will wait in a designated area once it is set up. The railway administration has chosen four locations for these waiting areas, including one near the VIP section and another near platform six. This move is part of a broader initiative by the Railway Board. It aims to limit platform access to passengers with confirmed tickets at 60 major railway stations across the country. Swapnil Neela, the chief public relations officer for Central Railway, stated that Pune station often handles a high number of travelers. Special trains frequently become crowded, hence the need for this policy. Once confirmed ticket holders are settled in their coaches, passengers without tickets can buy general tickets in the waiting area. A special queue will be formed for them, overseen by ticket inspectors and Railway Protection Force (RPF) officers. This helps ensure that everyone is organized and safe. Anand Saptarshi, a member of the Regional Advisory Committee, emphasized the importance of this decision for crowd management and public safety. Similar measures will also be implemented at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, Lokmanya Tilak Terminus, and Nagpur railway stations.
