Pune tightens free water tanker rules to prevent misuse
The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has tightened rules on free water tanker services to address misuse by contractors. Previously, 400 emergency trips were often made without authorization, leading to allegations of improper distribution. Contractors, who receive ₹ 1,140 per trip, were found supplying water without official instructions and diverting it outside city limits. The PMC has now banned water exchanges among operators and will not pay for unauthorized deliveries. PMC officials emphasize that existing rules will be enforced more strictly, especially during summer when demand for water increases due to shortages. Junior engineers have been instructed to ensure compliance with these regulations.
