Pune's Sinhagad Road flyover opening delayed by construction

timesofindia.indiatimes.com

Pune residents will have to wait longer to use the flyover on Sinhagad Road. The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) announced that the flyover will not open as planned. One side of the flyover, meant for traffic from Rajaram Bridge Chowk to Funtime Theatre Chowk, was expected to be open by March 2025. However, it is still under construction. Now, the PMC says that this part of the flyover will be ready by April. The opposite side will take longer, with completion expected by June 2025. Commuters have been looking forward to using the flyover to avoid the frequent traffic jams on this busy road. It is especially important for those traveling to Katraj-Dehu Road Bypass and Khadakwasla. Officials from PMC have said they are working quickly to finish the construction. They hope that once the work is completed and trial runs are done, the flyover can be opened soon after. Commuters are eager for both sides to be operational before the rainy season to ease their travels. Residents like Anil Pawar have expressed frustration with the ongoing traffic issues over the years. He mentioned that the area has been suffering from congestion, especially during construction. Currently, there are several traffic stops between Rajaram Bridge and Funtime Theatre Chowk, which the new flyover aims to alleviate. Prateek Ghodke, another commuter, is looking forward to the time savings the flyover promises. Currently, drivers can spend up to 20 minutes stuck in traffic. Additionally, PMC has made room for future Metro work while building the flyover. The Metro project is expected to start next year, pending approval from the central government.
