Pune's subway to MSRTC bus terminus opens in May

timesofindia.indiatimes.com

Work is nearly complete on a subway that will connect the Swargate Metro station to the MSRTC bus stand at Jedhe Chowk in Pune. The subway is expected to open in May 2025. It will allow commuters to move between the Metro station and bus terminus easily and safely, avoiding busy road traffic. Currently, pedestrians must cross the chaotic Jedhe Chowk and Satara Road, where there is a mix of buses, private vehicles, and autorickshaws. Barricades around the bus terminus make it difficult for people to navigate. Commuter Sujay Malkar expressed frustration, saying the subway should have opened sooner to improve safety and reduce travel time. Maha Metro officials explained that progress slowed because traffic police did not allow the closure of Jedhe Chowk due to heavy vehicle flow. As a result, the work was divided into five phases. An official stated they have created an alternative plan to complete the remaining work by mid-May, and they hope there won't be a need for traffic closures. Safety concerns at the MSRTC bus terminus have been heightened after a recent incident of violence at the facility.
