Punjab DGP urges unity between Army and police forces
Punjab's Director General of Police, Gaurav Yadav, addressed the media on Monday regarding the recent assault of an Army colonel and his son by police in Patiala. He described the incident as an "aberration" and urged against framing it as a conflict between military and police forces. Yadav emphasized his respect for the Army, sharing that he is the son of an Army officer. He recognized the unfortunate nature of the event and assured that proper actions would be taken. He highlighted that Punjab Police has collaborated effectively with the Army and other forces to combat militancy in the past. The colonel's family is currently protesting in Patiala, supported by former soldiers. Yadav mentioned ongoing discussions with local and military leadership to resolve the situation but declined to comment on specific details. He also responded to a related issue concerning bus safety for Himachal Pradesh vehicles in Punjab. Yadav confirmed that there have been reports and arrests related to vandalism and pledged a strict response to any law violations. He stated that the Punjab government would work closely with Himachal authorities to address issues affecting Punjabis as well.
