Punjab enhances free Wi-Fi with faster speeds, wider coverage
Punjab has improved its free Wi-Fi service by adding more hotspots and increasing speeds. In Lahore, the number of hotspots has grown from 200 to 230. The new service uses Wi-Fi 6 technology, which offers faster and more reliable internet. The Safe Cities Authority has expanded this initiative to 11 districts, which will help millions of users. Currently, the free Wi-Fi is available in Lahore, Kasur, Sheikhupura, and other major cities. The plan is to expand further in the future. So far, more than 17.7 million users have accessed a total of 438 terabytes of data. Authorities noted that the service is meant for emergency use, not for streaming movies or shows. Additionally, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz is focusing on improving digital education. She has announced initiatives to equip government schools with smart classrooms and digital labs. There will also be IT training programs to help prepare young people for jobs in the global market. Students will have access to courses in important fields like artificial intelligence and software development. These efforts are part of the government's goal to transform Punjab into a leading digital hub in Pakistan.
