Punjab Kings signs Shreyas Iyer for record Rs 26.75 crore in IPL auction

Shreyas Iyer was bought by Punjab Kings for Rs 26.75 crore during the IPL auction in Jeddah, making him the second-highest paid player in IPL history. He previously captained Kolkata Knight Riders and led Delhi Capitals to the final in 2020. Punjab Kings coach Ricky Ponting noted he had not spoken to Iyer about captaincy yet, joking that Iyer did not answer his call before the auction. Ponting expressed excitement about working with Iyer again. In IPL 2024, Iyer scored 351 runs in 14 matches with a strike rate of 146.86. His leadership experience is expected to benefit the Punjab Kings this season.
