Punjab minister orders cleanup of Amritsar garbage site
Punjab's local government minister, Dr. Ravjot Singh, has ordered the immediate removal of garbage from a temporary dump site in Ranjit Avenue, Amritsar. This decision came after concerns were raised by local MLA Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh about the increasing waste in the residential area. Dr. Singh pointed out that the land was initially meant for parking vehicles collecting solid waste. However, a company began using it to store garbage and machinery, turning it into an unplanned waste transfer station. The minister instructed the company to clear all trash and machinery right away. He also mandated that the area be cleaned twice daily to maintain hygiene. The municipal corporation of Amritsar has already fenced off the site to secure it. In addition, Dr. Singh mentioned that the current waste management agency informed the municipal corporation in February 2025 about its decision to exit the contract. As a result, the corporation plans to issue a new tender to find a different agency for waste collection and management. This change is expected to resolve the ongoing waste issues in Ranjit Avenue permanently.
