Punjab plans to plant 1.5 million saplings this spring
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has announced a major tree-planting initiative aimed at reducing pollution and promoting a healthier environment. In recognition of the International Day of Forests, she called on citizens to plant trees for future generations, stressing the importance of forests for the ecosystem and economy. The Chief Minister revealed that 1.5 million saplings will be planted this spring across the province. This effort is part of a larger campaign called "Plant for Pakistan," which aims to plant 4.4 million saplings. Additionally, the "Green Pakistan" program targets the planting of over 3.4 million saplings. The tree-planting will take place on various types of land, including government land and riverbanks. Specific areas targeted for the initiative include Rajanpur, Muzaffargarh, Sargodha, and several other locations along major rivers. In total, 3,700 acres of land will be used for planting. The Chief Minister also mentioned that the Punjab Forest Department is updating its technology. New tools such as GIS, drones, and high-resolution mapping are being introduced to help monitor forest health and prevent encroachments. This upgraded approach will enhance forest management and conservation efforts.
