Punjab Police arrest 95 drug smugglers, seizing heroin and opium

Punjab Police have arrested 95 drug smugglers as part of a month-long crackdown on illegal drugs. This effort, known as "Yudh Nashian Virudh," has been ongoing for 18 days. Authorities recovered 11 kilograms of heroin, 7.5 kilograms of opium, and ₹31,000 in cash linked to drugs during these operations. With these latest arrests, the total number of drug smugglers caught this year has risen to 2,231. The campaign is led by Punjab's director general of police, Gaurav Yadav, and it is active in all 28 districts of the state. In addition to the arrests, local communities are getting involved. Recently, 40 village councils in Malerkotla passed a resolution to work together against the drug issue. Special DGP for law and order, Arpit Shukla, reported that over 250 police teams, including 1,600 officers, conducted raids at 539 locations, resulting in 61 new cases filed. Police also checked 599 individuals suspected of drug-related activities during the operation.
