Punjab police to identify district drug suppliers
The Director General of Police (DGP) of Punjab, Gaurav Yadav, has instructed senior police officials to identify and document key drug suppliers in their districts. This order must be completed within a week. The goal is to disrupt the networks behind the state's drug trade. Since March 1, the Punjab government has been running an anti-drug campaign called 'Yudh Nashian Virudh.' This initiative has led to the arrest of nearly 4,000 drug smugglers and the registration of over 2,200 cases across the state. Police have also confiscated significant amounts of drugs, including 137.7 kg of heroin. DGP Yadav noted that the availability of heroin and other drugs has decreased, thanks in part to feedback from the public. However, he emphasized the need for thorough law enforcement against drug dealers in both rural and urban areas. All police commissioners and senior superintendents must oversee the mapping of drug suppliers. They should gather information from various sources, including citizen tips and criminal investigations. DGP Yadav insisted that the mapping should be well-founded and warned against claiming ignorance of drug sources, as that would be unacceptable. He also stated that reports must be submitted on time, and that any complacency will not be tolerated. Based on these reports, police will conduct targeted operations to apprehend major drug suppliers and disrupt their networks.
