Putin announces launch of experimental missile at Ukraine as tensions rise
Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the launch of a new hypersonic ballistic missile, the "Oreshnik," against Ukraine. This follows Ukraine's long-range strikes into Russia using Western missiles. Ukraine's air force reported an intercontinental ballistic missile was fired at Dnipro, marking a significant escalation. Putin's comments came after Russia's Foreign Ministry labeled a U.S. missile defense base in Poland a "priority target." The base is part of NATO's defense system, which aims to intercept short- to intermediate-range missiles. Poland's Foreign Ministry stated the base is purely defensive and does not house nuclear weapons. In recent developments, Russia also targeted President Zelensky's hometown, Kryvyi Rih, injuring 26 people. The Russian Defense Ministry claimed to have intercepted multiple missiles and drones, while Ukraine continues to receive support from the U.S. and UK for its military efforts.
