Putin announces launch of new missile targeting Ukraine
Russia has launched a new intermediate-range ballistic missile, named Oreshnik, at Ukraine. President Vladimir Putin announced this in response to Ukraine's recent use of U.S. and British missiles that can reach deeper into Russian territory. Putin claimed the Oreshnik missile travels at ten times the speed of sound and can target any country aiding Ukraine. This development follows U.S. approval for Ukraine to use longer-range missiles against limited targets in Russia. The missile was fired at Dnipro after Ukraine's strikes on Russian military sites, which caused damage in the Bryansk and Kursk regions. The U.S. was informed of the missile launch through nuclear risk reduction channels.
