Putin updates nuclear doctrine to allow nuclear response to conventional attacks
Russian President Vladimir Putin has updated the country's nuclear doctrine, allowing for the use of nuclear weapons in response to conventional attacks. This change comes amid rising tensions with Ukraine, particularly following Ukraine's use of ATACMS missiles against Russian targets. The new decree states that an attack on Russia supported by a nuclear power may be viewed as a joint attack. This revision aims to clarify conditions under which nuclear weapons could be deployed, reflecting concerns over NATO's military presence. Additionally, Russia is starting to install radiation shelters designed to protect citizens from nuclear threats. These shelters are intended to enhance safety against both natural and man-made hazards, according to the Ministry of Emergency Situations.
