Qantas orders over 60 new aircraft to expand fleet

simpleflying.com

Qantas, Australia's largest airline, is planning to expand its fleet significantly over the next few years. The airline currently has more than 120 aircraft and has 60 new ones on order, including various models from Airbus and Boeing. Among its new orders, Qantas has 25 Airbus A321XLRs, set to arrive starting in June 2025. The A321XLR can fly longer distances than standard aircraft, allowing Qantas to reach new markets in Asia more efficiently. This aircraft will enable routes like Cairns to Tokyo and Melbourne to Singapore. Qantas is also expecting 24 Airbus A350-1000s, with the first deliveries planned for 2026. These planes will be used for "Project Sunrise," launching non-stop flights to destinations like London and New York. The A350-1000 will have improved cabin features for passenger comfort, including premium seating. In addition to these, Qantas has four Boeing 787-9s and plans to receive eight larger Boeing 787-10s, starting in 2027. The 787-10s will likely be used for high-capacity routes within Asia. Currently, Qantas' fleet has an average age of about 15 years, with some older models being replaced by these new deliveries. QantasLink, the airline's regional subsidiary, is also expanding its fleet with 24 new Airbus A220-300s, which will enhance its regional operations.
