Raashii Khanna addresses female-led VFX film challenges

Raashii Khanna recently spoke about her experience in the Tamil film Aghathiyaa, which features Arjun Sarja and Jiiva. The film is known for its use of visual effects (VFX) and was released last month. Although it had a brief run in theaters, it made an impression for its unique concept. Aghathiyaa will be available for streaming on Sun NXT starting March 28. In an interview, Khanna discussed the challenges women face in VFX-heavy films. She acknowledged that Aghathiyaa would mainly showcase Arjun and Jiiva, but she was okay with her supporting role. She emphasized the importance of her character being meaningful, regardless of its size. "No matter how big or small my role is, it should have some impact," she said. Khanna pointed out that the industry still has a long way to go before female actors can star in such films independently. She noted that producers still prefer to invest in male leads for VFX-heavy projects. "If a female actor is able to bring in audiences, producers will be happy to let them headline," she commented. Despite these challenges, Khanna remains optimistic about the future. She believes that more VFX-led projects featuring female stars will emerge eventually. She praised the advancements in Indian cinema and highlighted films like Brahmastra for raising expectations in VFX quality. Khanna sees potential in the supernatural and fantasy genres and hopes to see more diverse storytelling in the future.
