Rabid dog attacks over 35 people in Kerala
A stray dog, suspected to have rabies, attacked over 35 people in two areas of Kannur, Kerala, on March 20, 2025. The attacks began early in the morning on Chala Koyode road and spread to nearby areas, including Poduvacheri and Chirakkat. Victims included people waiting at bus stops, walking on roads, and even those at home. One man, T. K. Ramachandran, suffered severe facial injuries and was taken to a private hospital for treatment. Three other seriously injured individuals were treated at Kannur Medical College Hospital, while the rest were directed to the district hospital. The situation escalated when Shaji, a local resident who was also bitten, took action and killed the dog. Local officials, including Anjarakandy panchayat leader K.P Lohithakshan and District Medical Officer Piyus Namboothiripad, visited the hospitals to assess the condition of the injured.
