Rahul Gandhi criticizes Data Protection Act's transparency limitations

Rahul Gandhi has criticized the Data Protection Act, 2023, claiming it limits public access to important information. He argues that this restriction makes it harder for citizens to hold the government accountable. Gandhi made these comments during a meeting with various activists, editors, and experts at the Parliament House. He believes the new law undermines transparency and weakens democratic oversight, saying it is a way for the NDA government to avoid scrutiny. According to Gandhi, the Act, which is meant to protect privacy, actually harms the ability of citizens and journalists to obtain vital information. He stated that the Congress party will work with the INDIA bloc to ensure the protection of citizen rights. In addition to discussing the Data Protection Act, Gandhi met with a delegation of retirees from the Central Armed Police Forces. The retirees expressed their concerns about their welfare and retirement benefits, seeking improvements related to their long service.
