Raiders aim to sign Amari Cooper for Geno Smith
The Las Vegas Raiders have secured Geno Smith as their starting quarterback for the upcoming season after trading for him from the Seattle Seahawks. With Smith in place, the Raiders are looking to enhance their offensive lineup, particularly by finding a top wide receiver. The team already has solid pass-catchers like Brock Bowers and Jakobi Meyers but still needs to find a No. 1 wide receiver. One option on the market is Amari Cooper, who has recently become available after finishing a $100 million contract with the Buffalo Bills. ESPN's Bill Barnwell suggested Cooper might be a good fit for the Raiders. Cooper, a former fourth overall pick by the Raiders in 2015, has had a strong career but struggled last season, recording only 547 yards. At 31 years old, there are concerns about his performance decline. However, his underwhelming stats may be due to his challenging season with the Cleveland Browns and his midseason trade to the Bills. The Raiders could benefit from signing Cooper, even if he is not the dominant receiver he once was. His experience could provide support for Smith. With ample cap space of $44.2 million available, the Raiders could afford a one-year deal. However, they should remain cautious and also consider drafting a receiver to secure their future.
