Rajarhat-Gopalpur water project benefits 3.2 lakh residents
The Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation (BMC) is starting a new water project costing Rs 333 crore. This project aims to create a water distribution network, build underground reservoirs, and install overhead tanks in the Rajarhat-Gopalpur area. It will cover municipal wards 1 to 21 and supply treated surface water. Officials expect the project to take about two years to complete. It will benefit approximately 3.2 lakh residents. Many people in these areas currently rely on underground water due to a lack of proper infrastructure. The plan includes 14 overhead tanks, four underground reservoirs, and a new pipeline system for delivering filtered water. Mackintosh Burn has received the work order to develop this infrastructure. This project is funded by the Center's AMRUT scheme. Local residents are looking forward to the improvements. "The water supplied now has high iron content. We hope to get filtered water soon," said Kaustav Dey, a resident near Chinar Park.
