Rajasthan government faces scrutiny over coaching centres bill
In Rajasthan, the state government faced embarrassment as the Assembly sent the Rajasthan Coaching Centres (Regulation and Control) Bill, 2025 to a select committee. This decision was made on Monday after discussions among lawmakers. The Assembly's Speaker, Vasudev Devnani, then adjourned the session without a set date to return. This incident marks the third bill in just ten days to be sent for further review. Legislators have raised concerns over the government's ability to create effective laws. Two other bills, regarding land revenue and groundwater management, also faced similar issues. Criticism of the coaching centres bill came from both the ruling party and the opposition. Many lawmakers pointed out that it did not include important features, such as an age limit of 16 years for student enrollment. They argued that this omission contradicts national guidelines issued by the central government in January 2024. Former minister Kalicharan Saraf, who has been in the Assembly for seven terms, cautioned that passing the bill as it stands could threaten coaching institutes in Rajasthan. This could adversely affect many people who rely on these institutions for their jobs and income.
