Rajasthan HC requests ED response on ex-mayor's probe
The Rajasthan High Court is asking the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to respond to a case involving former JMC-H mayor Munesh Gurjar. The court is looking into a cash amount of Rs 41.5 lakh found at Gurjar's home. The court has given the ED four weeks to provide answers. The investigation centers on an alleged bribery case that involves signing land lease documents. The anti-corruption bureau (ACB) seized Rs 41.5 lakh from the home of Sushil Gurjar, Munesh's husband. He was arrested along with two others, Anil Dubey and Narayan Singh, for accepting a bribe of Rs 2 lakh. A chargesheet was filed against them in September 2024. The court's request came during a hearing related to a public interest litigation (PIL) filed by an anti-corruption group. Advocate Poonam Chand Bhandari represents the group. She stated that this case clearly indicates money laundering according to the Prevention of Money Laundering Act. The former mayor and her husband did not appear before the court after the ACB chargesheet. Afterward, a complaint was sent to the ED on October 15, 2024, but no actions were taken. Bhandari expressed concern that the ED's inaction could create a negative perception among the public.
