Rameswaram auto drivers protest unlicensed three-wheelers
Auto drivers in Rameswaram protested at the tehsildar office, demanding action against three-wheelers operating without permits. They claim that unlicensed vehicles are increasing accidents and posing risks to visitors, especially non-Tamil speaking devotees. Drivers affiliated with CITU and AITUC highlighted that many outside autos have entered the town recently, impacting local drivers' income. They called for the district administration to issue identity cards to registered auto drivers to differentiate them from outsiders. The protest reflects growing concerns over safety and regulation in the transportation sector in Rameswaram. Local drivers seek measures to ensure safer travel for passengers.
