Ranchi penalizes tampering with waste RFID tags
Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) is taking a strong stance against tampering with RFID tags used for waste collection tracking. Officials announced that penalties will be imposed on homeowners who remove or damage these tags. This decision comes as RMC has noticed an increase in such incidents. RFID tags were introduced in December 2024 and have been installed in about 75,000 households, with a goal of reaching 270,000 homes. However, RMC's survey found that around 506 tags are missing from houses. Ravindra Kumar, RMC's deputy administrator, stressed the importance of these tags for efficient garbage collection and urged residents to support efforts for a cleaner city. The RFID tags help monitor when garbage collection vehicles visit each home. If tags are removed, it disrupts tracking and waste management, leading to gaps in services. RMC highlighted that this technology is vital for maintaining regular garbage collection in residential and commercial areas.
