Rangers overhaul power play to improve performance
Rangers head coach Peter Laviolette is looking to improve the team's struggling power play. During practice on Friday, he made significant changes to the two power-play units. Alexis Lafrenière moved up to the first unit, while Mika Zibanejad was demoted to the second unit. The new first power-play lineup includes Vincent Trocheck, Artemi Panarin, Lafrenière, Chris Kreider, and Adam Fox. The second unit now features J.T. Miller, Jonny Brodzinski, Zibanejad, Will Cuylle, and Zac Jones. Laviolette has not confirmed that these changes will take effect in the upcoming game against the Vancouver Canucks, but he is considering them. He stated, "If something's not working...you have to look at something different." The Rangers have struggled recently, with a record of 2-5-2 and only one power-play goal in 22 attempts. Miller mentioned that new faces in the lineup could bring some excitement and energy, which the team desperately needs. In other news, Matt Rempe returned to practice after missing the previous game due to illness. However, goalie Igor Shesterkin showed signs of frustration during practice after taking a shot to the stomach. Anton Blidh was sent back to the Hartford Wolf Pack after being recalled due to Rempe's absence.
