In February 2007, Ratan Tata co-piloted an F-16 fighter jet at the Aero India Show in Bengaluru. At 69, he flew under the guidance of a Lockheed Martin pilot, reaching low altitudes and experiencing high speeds. Tata, an aviation enthusiast, described the flight as exhilarating. He expressed his excitement about flying at 500 feet and maneuvering over the landscape. After landing, he received a miniature F-16 from Lockheed Martin officials. The day after, Tata flew a Boeing F-18 Super Hornet, showcasing his passion for aviation. He passed away at 86 in Mumbai, with a state funeral planned for today.
