Rawalpindi starts cervical cancer vaccination for young girls
Rawalpindi has launched a new vaccination campaign targeting girls aged 9 to 14, adding cervical cancer to the list of diseases being combated. This initiative aims to protect children from thirteen deadly diseases, including tuberculosis and measles. Pakistan now ranks seventh in the world for cervical cancer cases, with a high mortality rate. The vaccination campaign will start in September, initially in Punjab and Sindh, and will later expand to other provinces. The vaccine will be provided by GAVI initially, with plans for government purchase afterward. Local authorities stress the importance of community involvement and responsible media reporting to ensure the campaign's success and raise awareness about the vaccine's benefits.
