RBI appoints Indranil Bhattacharyya as executive director

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has appointed Indranil Bhattacharyya as its new executive director. This decision was announced on March 20, 2025, and Mr. Bhattacharyya officially took on the role on March 19. In his position, he will oversee the Department of Economic and Policy Research. Before this promotion, he worked as an Adviser in the Monetary Policy Department at the RBI. Mr. Bhattacharyya has nearly 30 years of experience in various economic fields. He has focused on monetary policy, fiscal policy, banking, and international economic relations during his career at the RBI. Additionally, he spent five years as an economic expert at the Qatar Central Bank. He holds a postgraduate degree in economics from Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi. His main research interests include monetary theory and policy, financial markets, and fiscal policy.
