globalnews.ca

RCMP officers are searching for two armed suspects near Elk Island National Park, east of Edmonton. The search began on Sunday morning around 6:30 a.m. after the suspects fled from their vehicle. The Mounties had disarmed the vehicle near the park's main entrance, located about 40 kilometers from Edmonton. Following this, police closed parts of the Yellowhead Highway to carry out their search. Although there were no full road closures, traffic in the area was delayed. RCMP Cpl. Troy Savinkoff mentioned that, while the location is remote and does not have nearby homes, drivers should not pick up any hitchhikers. They advised the public to report any suspicious activity by calling 911. The search continued into the late morning, and the RCMP promised to provide updates as more information becomes available.
