RDU's Ravi Philemon advocates for opposition party unity

Red Dot United (RDU) secretary-general Ravi Philemon stated on March 21 that multi-cornered fights among opposition parties are not beneficial. He emphasized the need for opposition unity in response to multiple parties expressing interest in the Jalan Kayu Single Member Constituency (SMC) after a recent electoral boundary report. Philemon said RDU is ready to contribute to a united opposition. Around 20 RDU members and volunteers visited Jalan Kayu SMC to engage with the community, distributing flyers at various locations including Seletar Mall and nearby transport hubs. Following the electoral report, other opposition parties like the People's Power Party and the People's Alliance for Reform also announced intentions to contest in the area. Philemon noted that feedback from residents indicates a desire for better checks and balances in governance. He described RDU as a serious political party committed to supporting a fairer society for all Singaporeans. He also introduced Ms Kala Manickam, who will lead RDU's efforts in Jalan Kayu. Manickam, a former member of the Progress Singapore Party, shared her personal experiences to connect with voters. She mentioned challenges faced by parents and job seekers in Singapore. Also present at the community event was former human rights lawyer M Ravi, who volunteered for RDU. He expressed his commitment to supporting the party as a Jalan Kayu resident. Ravi previously contested in the 2015 General Election with the Reform Party and remains dedicated to providing an alternative voice in parliament.
