Rebels led by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham take control of Syria after Assad's ousting
Bashar al-Assad has been ousted from power in Syria, fleeing to Russia after rebels led by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) captured key cities, including Damascus. This marks a significant shift after 54 years of Assad family rule. HTS has announced the formation of a transitional authority, appointing Syrian Prime Minister Mohammed al-Jalali as caretaker of state institutions. Jalali stated his government is ready to transfer power to a leadership chosen by the people. The future of Syria remains uncertain, with concerns about security, governance, and the fate of chemical weapons. HTS, previously linked to Al Qaeda, faces challenges in uniting various factions and ensuring stability in the war-torn country.
