Record high temperatures attract beachgoers to Pacifica
Record-breaking heat in March has drawn many people to the beaches in Pacifica, California. This week marks the warmest temperatures seen in the Bay Area since last October. Residents are enjoying the sunshine and good surf after a colder winter. On Monday, cities across the Bay Area shattered previous record temperatures. For instance, Half Moon Bay reached 81 degrees, the hottest for late March since 1941. Locals have shared how they are taking advantage of the lovely weather. "We're very lucky to live here in Pacifica," said Jean Peralta, a resident. Many surfers are also hitting the waves, taking full advantage of the great conditions. However, as more people learn about the warm weather, regular beachgoers anticipate heavy traffic this weekend. Peralta mentioned that they prefer to stay home during weekends to avoid crowds. The National Weather Service has issued a Beach Hazards Statement that will last until Wednesday morning. They warned beachgoers that while the temperatures are warm, the ocean remains cold, between 51 to 57 degrees. This poses risks such as sneaker waves and rip currents, which could catch people off guard.
