Red Sox may trade Trevor Story for top prospects

To make space for Campbell and Mayer, the team might move Devers to the designated hitter role and keep Bregman at third base. This would open up second base for Campbell. Mayer has shown impressive stats this spring, with an OPS of 1.076. He also performed well in the minors, making a strong case for a spot on the major league roster. However, finding a way to include both players might require trading Trevor Story, who has a $140 million contract. This potential trade would be a bold move. The Red Sox would need to believe that Campbell and Mayer can handle the demands of playing every day in the majors. Trading Story could give them salary relief and allow for a better pitching deal, possibly with the Atlanta Braves. Despite the risks of injury or performance issues, the Red Sox may decide it’s worth it to clear space for their talented young players.
