A 56-year-old man was killed in a violent attack in Ganjabahal village, Sambalpur district, on Saturday. The victim, Murali Dhal, was reportedly attacked by his 50-year-old relative, Giridhari Sahu, using an axe. Police arrived at the scene and detained Sahu, who confessed to the crime. The incident happened around 11:30 a.m. while Dhal was riding his bike along a village road. Sahu struck him with the axe, resulting in Dhal's death on the spot. Sahu explained that he committed the act due to a long-standing grievance. He stated that Dhal had allegedly abducted his daughter in 2021. Sahu claimed he faced threats when trying to retrieve her. Authorities, including Rairakhol SDPO Prashant Kumar Meher, arrived for an investigation. Sahu's daughter, who is also Dhal's daughter-in-law, filed a complaint against her father. Police have seized the weapon and taken steps to arrest Sahu, who is expected to appear in court soon. Further investigations are ongoing.
