Renault unveils 5 Turbo 3E electric supercar

Renault has introduced a new electric sports car, the 5 Turbo 3E, which pays homage to the classic R5 Turbo 2 from the 1980s. This compact model combines retro design with modern performance, boasting 533 horsepower. Renault aims to create a new category of small supercars, making electric vehicles more exciting for customers. CEO Fabrice Cambolive expressed enthusiasm for this model, highlighting its unique blend of boldness and innovation. He believes the 5 Turbo 3E will deliver high performance in a compact form, measuring just 4 meters in length. The design incorporates elements from the recent Renault 5 E-Tech, including sleek headlights and a stylish rear end. The Turbo 3E features significant performance capabilities. It produces 540 horsepower, more than four times that of the base Renault 5 E-Tech. Despite not being the most powerful electric vehicle available, the Turbo 3E’s light weight allows it to accelerate from 0-62 mph in under 3.5 seconds. It can outperform prestigious models like the Porsche 911 GT3 and the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500. Renault plans to start taking orders soon, but customers will need to wait until around 2027 for delivery. The company aims to produce a limited run of 1,980 cars, symbolizing the year the original R5 Turbo 2 was released. Each Turbo 3E will be hand-built, possibly costing over £100,000, with customized versions potentially costing double.
