Renowned Indian tabla player Zakir Hussain dies at 73
Zakir Hussain, a celebrated Indian tabla player, has died at the age of 73 in San Francisco from idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. His manager confirmed the news following his final concerts in New Zealand in June. Hussain was known for his collaborations with iconic Indian musicians and Western artists, helping to popularize Indian classical music worldwide. He won five Grammy awards and received the Kyoto Prize, among other honors. He was also a dedicated teacher and mentor, influencing many musicians. Hussain is survived by his wife, two children, and three siblings.
