Renowned tabla maestro Ustad Zakir Hussain passed away at the age of 73 in San Francisco on December 16, 2024, due to idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. He had been hospitalized for two weeks before his condition worsened. Born on March 9, 1951, in Mumbai, Hussain was the son of legendary tabla player Alla Rakha. He began his musical career at 13 and received numerous accolades, including five Grammy Awards and the Padma Vibhushan. Hussain is survived by his wife, Antonia Minnecola, and their two daughters.
