Rep. Casar criticizes Republicans over Social Security cuts
During a recent interview on Fox News, Representative Greg Casar (D-TX) challenged the claims of host Mike Emanuel regarding the Republican Party's stance on Social Security. Casar accused Republicans of being influenced by wealthy interests, citing Elon Musk's comments characterizing Social Security as a "Ponzi scheme" and suggesting cuts to the program. Casar argued that Republican lawmakers should not support measures that threaten Social Security, Medicaid, and Medicare for tax breaks benefiting billionaires. He stated that the Democratic Party should focus on protecting and expanding these essential programs, suggesting this approach could attract some conservative supporters. Emanuel defended Republicans, saying many do not want to harm Social Security. However, Casar quickly countered this by referencing recent actions announced by former President Trump and Musk, including the closure of Social Security offices. He warned that these changes would make it difficult for seniors to access their benefits and could lead to allegations of fraud against recipients. Casar emphasized the negative implications of these decisions, asserting that high-ranking officials don't understand the challenges faced by average citizens. He called for a united front to safeguard Social Security, which many people have contributed to since World War II.
