Replacing butter with plant oils may reduce death risk
A new study indicates that replacing butter with plant-based oils may lower the risk of early death. The research, published in JAMA Internal Medicine, followed 221,000 adults in the U.S. for 33 years. The study found that those who consumed the most butter had a 15% higher risk of death, while those who used plant-based oils had a 16% lower risk. Swapping butter for these oils was linked to a 17% lower risk of death. Olive, soybean, and canola oils were noted for their health benefits, particularly in reducing cancer and heart disease risks. However, corn and safflower oils showed no significant benefits, and palm and coconut oils were not included in the analysis.
