Republican AGs support Trump's deportation of gang members
A group of Republican state attorneys general is backing former President Donald Trump in a legal dispute over the deportation of gang members. They filed an amicus brief in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia to support Trump's efforts to remove alleged members of the Tren de Aragua gang from the U.S. South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson and Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares are leading the group. They argue that a recent ruling by U.S. District Judge James Boasberg, which blocks these deportations, undermines public safety. Wilson stated that judges are prioritizing foreign terrorist organizations over the safety of American citizens. The attorneys general believe that Trump's actions comply with the Alien Enemies Act, which gives him the power to deport certain illegal immigrants. They claim that the presence of Tren de Aragua members contributes to crime in their states. Recent arrests of gang members in South Carolina, which previously had none, have raised their concerns. Miayares emphasized that the judges are overstepping their authority by interfering with the federal government's ability to enforce immigration laws. They have called for the appeals court to reverse the lower court's decision. The brief is supported by attorneys general from multiple states, including Alabama, Georgia, and Texas.
