Republicans near majority in US House as election results come in

Republicans are close to gaining control of the US House of Representatives, having won 212 of the 435 seats. They need six more seats to secure a majority, which would help advance Donald Trump's agenda when he takes office in January. Democratic Representative Marie Gluesenkamp Perez won re-election in Washington state, defeating Republican Joe Kent. This race was a rematch from 2022, where she won by a narrow margin of just over 2,600 votes. Results are still pending in 19 House races, primarily in western states. Republicans currently hold ten of these seats, while Democrats hold nine. Republican senators will choose their leader for 2025 next week, with Rick Scott gaining endorsements.
