Republicans propose bill to maintain SNAP benefits
House Republicans have introduced a continuing resolution (CR) to prevent a government shutdown. If approved, it will maintain Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits and other key services at current levels until September 30. The CR ensures that SNAP, Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security payments continue without interruption. It also includes funding for veterans and a slight increase in defense spending, which may affect bipartisan support. To pass, the bill requires Democratic backing. Government funding will expire on Friday if the CR is not approved. The bill aims to provide stability while delaying more contentious funding discussions until later this year.
