Republicans secure five-seat majority in U.S. House after final election call
The balance of power in the U.S. House of Representatives is now set, with Republicans holding a five-seat majority at 220 to 215. This follows Democrat Adam Gray's narrow victory over Republican John Duarte in California's 13th district. Democrats flipped nine Republican-held seats, while Republicans gained eight from Democrats in various states. The House majority may change due to upcoming special elections linked to Cabinet nominations by President-elect Donald Trump. Trump has nominated several House members for Cabinet positions, including Elise Stefanik and Michael Waltz, which will trigger special elections in 2025. In the Senate, Republicans maintain a majority with 53 seats, and Trump has nominated Marco Rubio as secretary of state.
