Rescued elephant Kajur Karna suffers serious injuries

timesofindia.indiatimes.com

Kajur Karna, a wild elephant, is suffering from serious injuries after being rescued from poachers. This majestic tusker was known for wandering near roadsides in the forests but has now been taken to the Dubare Elephant Camp for treatment. Kajur Karna was captured on February 1 with government approval. His condition is concerning, as staff discovered severe wounds on his legs. Bullets embedded in his rear left leg have caused swelling and pain, making it hard for him to move. Treatment has been ongoing for about two weeks. During a recent examination, officials found a significant buildup of pus in his leg, which led them to extract glass bullets and a large amount of necrotic tissue. While treating his left leg, they noticed additional swelling in his right leg and found more bullets there as well. The injuries are severe, and there are many bullet fragments throughout Kajur Karna's body. These fragments could lead to complications later, and while surgery might be needed, it is not possible right now due to Kajur Karna's untamed nature. The forest department is carefully monitoring his recovery. DFO Bhasker reported that Kajur Karna is slowly responding to treatment provided by wildlife expert Dr. Chittiappa. The elephant is under constant supervision as the team works to manage his injuries.
