Residents in Gurugram must vacate unsafe towers
The Gurugram district administration has ordered residents of three towers at Chintels Paradiso to vacate within 15 days. This decision follows a report by the Central Building Research Institute (CBRI), which found Towers A, B, and C to be structurally unsafe. Authorities have already declared six other towers, D, E, F, G, H, and J, unsafe and have given permission for their demolition. The order aims to prevent any harm to residents living in the affected buildings. Gurugram's deputy commissioner, Ajay Kumar, highlighted the urgent need for evacuation to ensure safety. The order also includes instructions for local town planners and police to help enforce the evacuation. Legal action may be taken against anyone who does not comply with the directive. The safety concerns for these towers arose after a tragic incident in February 2022, when a ceiling collapsed due to renovations in Tower D, resulting in two deaths. Following this, a full structural audit of the complex was ordered. Residents have expressed frustration with the evacuation notice. They argue that the administration has not included them in discussions about relocation or compensation. The local residents' association plans to hold a meeting to address these concerns. In contrast, a spokesperson for Chintels India Ltd expressed support for the evacuation order, emphasizing their commitment to cooperate with authorities and prioritizing the safety of residents.
