Residents in Guwahati protest tree felling for road overbridge project
Residents of Bharalumukh, Guwahati, protested on Saturday against plans to cut over 70 trees for a road overbridge. The protest involved more than 100 people, including seniors, who formed a human chain to express their concerns about environmental impacts. This demonstration follows previous protests against tree felling for a separate flyover project. Participants called for public consultation and displayed messages highlighting the importance of preserving local trees for future generations. While railway authorities argue the overbridge is necessary to reduce traffic congestion, the public works department is exploring options to minimize tree removal. Community leaders emphasize the need for transparency and alternative solutions to protect the environment.
