Rhyl, a coastal town in North Wales, is set for a major transformation with a £20 million regeneration project. The newspaper's low rating highlighted the decline of popular attractions in Rhyl, such as the Ocean Beach funfair, which closed in 2007, and the abandoned Sky Tower ride. Despite these challenges, Rhyl is working to improve its image and become a more attractive destination. The UK government has announced funding as part of a £1.1 billion investment aimed at helping towns like Rhyl that have been overlooked in the past. Former Prime Minister Rishi Sunak emphasized the need for better support for towns, pointing out issues such as empty high streets and anti-social behavior. Officials from Rhyl Council are optimistic about the town's future. They noted that over the past decade, £200 million has been invested into Rhyl's development, including over £100 million for sea defenses to protect against flooding. The council has plans for new attractions, including Queen's Market, which will feature a variety of food and retail options and is expected to open this summer. In addition to the market, Rhyl Council has invested in new leisure facilities, such as an indoor water park and a Ninja assault course. These projects have already created new jobs. The Rhyl Pavilion Theatre has also undergone renovations, featuring a new restaurant and bar with ocean views. Overall, the improvements are attracting more visitors. In 2023, Rhyl welcomed 1.8 million guests, up from 1.7 million before the COVID-19 pandemic. The town is focused on promoting tourism and enhancing the local economy through its ongoing regeneration efforts.
