Rice reunites with former teammate Matrevics in Latvia

Declan Rice has shared a funny story about Rihards Matrevics, a Latvian goalkeeper nicknamed 'King Kong'. The England midfielder is excited to reunite with his former teammate during England's match against Latvia on Sunday. Rice and Matrevics both played together at West Ham's academy. Matrevics is known for his impressive height, standing at 6 feet 7 inches tall. Rice joked that if Matrevics plays, he might look even taller on the field. Rice recalls how Matrevics struggled with English when he first arrived at West Ham, saying it was surprising to see such a big player. He remembers going to Nando's restaurant with Matrevics while they were in Essex. The keeper had to duck to get through doors, which added to the humor of the situation. After leaving West Ham in 2018, Matrevics played for Barnet but never made it to the first team. He later played for non-league teams before returning to Latvia in 2021. Rice is looking forward to catching up with Matrevics after many years apart.
