Richard Burrows guilty of 97 child abuse offences
Richard Burrows, a former boarding school housemaster, has been found guilty of 97 child sexual abuse offences after spending 27 years on the run. He was arrested at Heathrow Airport upon returning from Thailand just before his 80th birthday. Burrows had fled the UK in 1997 before a court appearance. He admitted to 43 offences but denied 54 others, which the jury convicted him of. His systematic abuse of boys spanned from the mid-1960s to the mid-1990s. Police used facial recognition software to identify Burrows living in Thailand under a false identity. They allowed him to return to the UK on his fake passport to facilitate his arrest. Some victims have yet to come forward.
