Ring of fire solar eclipse to illuminate parts of South America and the Pacific on October 2
A "ring of fire" solar eclipse will occur on October 2, 2024, visible mainly over Easter Island and parts of Argentina and Chile. This type of eclipse happens when the moon covers most of the sun, leaving a ring visible. A partial solar eclipse will be seen in Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay, and Hawaii. This event follows an April total solar eclipse that was visible in parts of Mexico, Canada, and the U.S. To safely view the eclipse, special solar eclipse glasses are required. Regular sunglasses are not sufficient. Alternative viewing methods include using a pinhole projector or observing shadows under a tree.
